What Our Clients Say

We adopted our husky, Yankee, from a rescue a year ago. He had been picked up as a stray and had been living in a kennel for several months before we adopted him. It was obvious that he had not been in a home for a while, and he had some behavior issues (he was a notorious counter surfer and also had food aggression). We worked with Jon for several months on basic obedience, leash walking, door greetings, and strategies to use to keep Yankee mentally stimulated so that he wouldn’t eat the couch out of boredom. The difference that training with Jon has made has been incredible! Yankee is now well behaved in the house and walks beautifully on a leash without pulling. Jon has been so patient with us and is always available to talk to us in between sessions if we have questions or concerns. He is very knowledgeable and it has also been great having Jon come to our house to do training so that he can interact with Yankee in his home environment. We recently adopted another dog and will definitely be doing more training with Jon. We cannot say enough great things about our experience working with him!
Corbin spent six months in a rural animal shelter before I adopted him. He was heart worm positive so during treatment he had to spend his first 5 months with me quietly in his crate for long periods. His Rescue and I were able to determine he had probably lived in a barn, shared an eating trough with other hunting dogs and had little human contact. Corbin picked up house training but didn’t like to be touched very often and tended not to “hang out” with myself and the other dog, going to the landing upstairs. He started to become aggressive after spending time with neighbors when I had to go out of town; they would try to walk him and he’d just stop in front of my house. I think he thought he was abandoned again.
Jon came in on Day 1, listened to everything I had observed with Corbin, and got right to work. By the end of our first session we mapped out a two week plan, which included “detox”, and right away there was a difference. When we met every few weeks he would teach me several strategies. Each one built on the previous ones. I would email him videos of our work and he gave me great feedback. Corbin began to do things like sitting and laying down on command. His apprehension and aggressiveness slowly went away. He even walks right next to me outside. Over the holidays I was able to leave him with a sitter without any problem.
As I write this Corbin is sleeping head to head with the other dog. He’s become a content, trusting and happy dog. I would recommend Jon Horwitz without reservation to anyone who has a dog in need of training.
